MIA does this through being a collective independent voice, acting as the interface between industry and Government, co-ordinating industry innovation and R&D, promoting career and training opportunities and fostering strong industry relationships locally and overseas to maintain and increase trade and market access.
New Zealand’s red meat sector continues to provide an engine for our economy. It is our largest manufacturing industry and second largest goods exporter generating approximately 16 per cent of New Zealand’s export revenue.
MIA is governed by a Council of nine member executives plus an independent Chair
MIA is looking to appoint a new independent Chair to replace the current Chair who will retire in the middle of this year.
This role requires a time commitment of 50 to 60 days per year. Responsibilities include chairing Council meetings and AGMs, co-chairing the Red Meat Sector Conference, mentoring the MIA’s CEO and overseeing financial management, representing the MIA at industry forums and with stakeholders including Government ministers and officials, and leading sector trade delegations.
The role of Chair would suit an experienced governor with:
- proven experience in building strong relationships across Government and key sector partners;
- the ability to promote and advocate for New Zealand’s primary industry and red meat sector; and
- strong communication and leadership skills, expertise in navigating complex industry issues and driving for consensus across all stakeholders.
