Introduction
Innovation is the backbone of New Zealand’s processing industry and the sector has built up a wealth of knowledge and technology thanks to a sustained history of investment. We recognise the key role that science and technology plays in producing the highest quality products and ensuring a robust and prosperous future for our people and our communities. We continue to invest in research and development to support the production of red meat in New Zealand.
At the MIA, our team manages a portfolio of research and development for meat processors and exporters, working with leading research organisations and scientists spanning a wide range of topics including meat quality, food safety and integrity, processing operations, nutritional science, product development and emerging technologies.
FOCUS AREA:

MIA investment in R&D is guided by the Red Meat Processing Sector R&D Strategy, which identifies key areas where meat processors collaborate and invest in innovation to build the sector. The strategy, which is available to MIA members, is aligned with the broader Red Meat Sector Strategy 2020.
